Parkour Wiki

Many traceurs may wonder how to design a good fitness regime, and how to train in general. There are at least two ways to do it: alone or with others. Here are easy, three-step instructions for both.

Training Alone
[]

Training alone is great in any circumstance, especially if you're just building up muscles, and maybe practicing a few moves. It's also pretty simple.

  1. Find what you need practice at.
  1. Find a good place to practice, and/or buy necessary equipment, if any.
  1. Set a regime. For example, If you need to work on upper-body and ab strength, start with a thirty-second plank, then move on to ten push-ups or pull-ups. Also, make sure you get some variety, even if you practice things you already know. As they say, "use it or lose it!"

 Training with Others[]

Training with others is fantastic if you want advice from fellow traceurs, want to practice obstacle course races, or just want to be with others when you train.

  1. This may be the hardest step, depending on the popularity of parkour in your area: find a group to practice with. Some places—especially small towns—may not have a large group of traceurs in the area. If that's where you live, training alone may be your best option.
  1. Set a date to practice (Example: Saturdays from 4 to 5 pm).
  1. Train. It doesn't really matter how, but don't just sit around if you came to exercise. If you need some suggestions, playing games such as Add-on and Ten-minute Drill are great ways to practice as a group.
