Parkour Wiki

The Jackie Chan Vault (or more commonly just the Chan Vault) is a vault used in parkour where the practitioner performs a no-handed dash vault. It is a technique that mimics the flying kicks of Jackie Chan. Because of this, it is one of the only vaults where no contact is made with the obstacle at any point during the movement.

Guide[]

Prerequisite[]

It is necessary to be able to jump very high to perform this trick since all of the height comes from the initial jump with no assistance from the hands like with other vaults.

Technique[]

  1. Get a big run towards the obstacle.
  2. Jump as high as possible.
  3. Extend the leg closest to the obstacle directly in front of you while tucking the other leg (that you jumped off) underneath it. You can also put both things out straight, but this is much harder.
  4. After clearing the obstacle lower your tucked leg and land in a run.

Usage[]

This trick is most useful in scenarios where it is not possible or otherwise too dangerous to make contact with the obstacle, such as when trying to jump over a fence that has spiky tops. A dive vault can also be used in this scenario, but that may not be plausible if the other side has a considerable drop and it is also more difficult to perform safely.

It is also useful for lower objects where performing a regular dash vault can be very hard on the wrists so it's more efficient to simply jump over it completely. However, in the event you did not get enough distance to completely clear the obstacle you can place your hands down to transition into a standard dash vault.
