The Side Vault (also known as the Two-Handed Vault, Basic Vault or Simple Vault) is a vault used in parkour that is performed by putting both hands on the obstacle on entrance then pushing yourself up with both of your hands and your legs sideways over the object.

Guide[]

Prerequisite[]

Before learning this trick it is recommended to first learn the safety vault.

Technique[]

  1. Place both hands on top of the obstacle
  2. Bend down to jump and pull yourself forward using your arms.
  3. Jump over the obstacle and swing your legs to one side while balancing on the opposite planted arm for stability
  4. Release the arm that is closest to the legs
  5. After your legs make it over use your planted arm to push off and upright yourself
  6. Run out or move smoothly from the obstacle

Usage[]

This trick is most useful for beginners who may not have the flexibility necessary to perform a monkey vault or who are afraid of clipping their feet while trying to jump over and falling on their face.

This vault is commonly used from heights ranging from the waist to the chest and is very useful when having low momentum since the momentum is generated from the swing and not the run.
