TheStraddle Vault is a vault used in freerunning where the practitioner does a monkey vault, but instead of pulling their legs in-between their arms their legs perform a split to the left and right over the obstacle for added style.

Guide[]

Prerequisite[]

It is necessary to be able to do a somewhat decent split before attempting this technique, so good flexibility is a definite pre-requisite. Learning the basic monkey vault is also a requirement.

Before attempting this on a wide obstacle it is highly recommended to first learn this on a narrow obstacle because your legs do not have to fully clear the obstacle you're vaulting over so a high split is not necessary. If attempted on a wide object it is possible to clip your feet if you lack flexibility.

Technique[]

  1. Approach the obstacle from a run.
  2. Place both hands on the obstacles directly in front of you.
  3. Push upwards with both hands while jumping as high as possible.
  4. Hold your body upright with both of your planted hands (similar to a tucked planche).
  5. Bring both legs outward in a split position
  6. Release both hands from the obstacle.
  7. Bring both legs together after clearing the obstacle and land in a run.
